It's been well established that you don't watch hockey. Did you tune in for the U.S. soccer game against Brazil? - DJ
Shhh. I'm trying to lay low on the I-hate-hockey business. I do actually enjoy soccer, but I regret to inform you that I did not tune in to watch the match. Call me when the World Cup is on.
With that being said, let me give you some analysis on the sport, although I haven't watched a match in about three years: The United States is not as good as this tournament seemed to suggest.
Obviously, beating France was a freak occurence. That's the beauty of low-scoring sports like soccer. You get one or two goals, survive some near-misses, and all of a sudden a gigantic upset is pulled off. In basketball and football, the best team generally wins. In sports like hockey, baseball and soccer, there is a much greater chance for upsets.
The 2-0 lead against Brazil was just as unexpected and fluky, but the magic ended a little early.
For those who believe the United States is now on the level of a team like Brazil, let's take a glance at one statistic from that match: Shots on goal.
The United States took eight shots, four of which were on goal. Incredibly, two of those went in. Brazil, on the other hand, had 24 shots and 11 on goal, of which they made three.
Basically, the U.S. should have been slaughtered. They scored goals at an extremely high rate, but didn't get nearly the overall chances that Brazil did.
Maybe they are getting better, but America is still a bridesmaid when it comes to soccer.

This suggests that you shouldn't be making that analysis.
"Obviously, beating France was a freak occurrence."
You mean Spain? Kinda proves my point, right?
This post is an epic fail.
If you don't want to pay attention to soccer and hockey, fine, but to then post about it just makes you look ignorant.
