Who deserves to win the Heisman? - Jacob, Pocatello, Idaho
We still have a little bit of season left, but since you asked, I'll give you my top-3. And for all you Tim Tebow fans, don't waste your time clicking to read the rest of this post if you are expecting to see his name. It won't be there. When someone asks about the top-200 Heisman candidates, you can return and gush about the Chosen One.
Anyways, here's my top-3:
1) Mark Ingram, Alabama: As a whole, this team doesn't impress me too much. Everyone talks about how impessive the SEC is because of its stout defenses. Are you sure it's not just because the offenses are mediocre? It seems to me that when SEC offenses have good players, they have no problem scoring ( a la Florida last year with Percy Harvin). When they don't, all of a sudden it's because of these shutdown defenses. I don't buy it. Alas, Ingram's performance (175 carries for 1,148 yards and eight touchdowns) has been very impressive so far this year. He's a stud.
2) Toby Gerhart, Stanford: Yupp, here comes the rumbling. No Tebow? No McCoy? You must be out your mind! Well, not really. Gerhart keeps putting up monster numbers against the best competition. That's the sign of a great running back. He is a beast to tackle and actually has very good speed. Plus, he's a great blocker, an aspect overlooked in running backs. Stanford just might be one of the 10 best teams in the country right now, and much of it is due to Gerhart's play.
3) Colt McCoy, Texas: While his numbers haven't been off the charts, it's been a solid year for McCoy, who is on the verge of leading Texas to the championship game. If Sam Bradford was healthy McCoy would only be the second-best quarterback in his conference, but the chips have been played this way, and McCoy has taken advantage.
