Alright Bush Rod... put your Sun Devil glasses away and objectively analyze the last-minute call by the refs in the Arizona @ Washington game last Saturday. Botched call, or simply bad luck for the 'cats? - Dave, Smelly Tucson, Ariz.
Hold on just a minute, let me watch the tape (going to YouTube, searching for the game, hitting play. Bwahahahahahahaahahahaahh!!! THAT IS AWESOME!... Taking a deep breath... Nope, not yet... Hahhahahahaahaahaahahaha... OK, Calming myself to give a rational answer to the masses.)
And I'm back.
First thought: Nick Foles looks exactly like Jesus would with a helmet on.
Second thought: No, the Wildcats did not get screwed.
How long did it take for that ball to bounce into the air? Three, maybe four-tenths of a second? Obviously the refs didn't have much time to decide what just happened, and I'm pretty surprised a whistle wasn't blown. Once the call was made, there has to be irrefutable evidence that it should be overturned.
I've watched probably a dozen replays. I've seen the still shots. I actually planted a camera in that wide receiver's shoe and I still couldn't tell if the ball hit the ground. So even after a replay, you can't overturn that call.
And you know what? Arizona deserved to lose that game. If you dominate an opponent for that long and even subject yourself to that position (throwing on first down instead of running the ball) then I'm fine with whatever outcome happens, no matter how unlikely.
The Wildcats have more talent this season than they've had, arguably, since those Desert Swarm teams. And with Mike Stoopid at the helm, this team still won't finish any better than 7-5.

But you're right. This shouldn't have been an issue, really - the cats should have capitalized many other times during the game.
Either way, however: Sunshine Foles is likely the best quarterback UA or that Juco up north has ever seen.
