Should the Cardinals trade Anquan? - Willy, Glendale, Ariz.
I cannot stress how bad of an idea it would be to trade Anquan Boldin. All last season, Quan made it be known that he wanted a trade. And when Arizona didn't relent, he went out and played harder than any other guy on the field.
Boldin BROKE HIS FACE and still returned just a few weeks later. There isn't a tougher guy in football, and even though he isn't happy with his situation, Boldin will continue to put it on the line every Sunday, regardless of what team he is on.

Do the Celtics still have a chance of taking home the cake with KG out for the whole postseason? If not, who's the new favorite out East? - Harold, Blacksburg, Va.
Let me just rock you with an entire NBA playoff preview. And for the record, the injruy to KG officially means I can absolve myself of that NBA title pick and start anew. Why? Because I said so.
Western Conference first round No. 1 Los Angeles vs. No. 8 Utah: Not the easiest first round matchup for Los Angeles, because Utah loves to play dirty, but the Lakers are too talented to stumble here. Lakers in five.

John Madden is retiring from broadcasting, in case you didn't hear. Does that make you happy or sad? More importantly, this isn't the end of Madden football games, is it? - Archie, Pittsburgh, Penn.
It makes me ecstatic, if that means Frank Caliendo does fewer impressions.
I can't imagine the Madden series ending any time soon. What does he really do, besides lend his name to the game? He isn't even on the cover anymore. What's going on here is even bigger than that.

My friend and I were trying to come up with three things about the NHL that were better than what other sports have to offer. We've got fights (obviously) and Canadian accents, but are stuck after those two. Do you have one more? - Jon, Minneapolis, Minn.
This one doesn't jump out at you, but I love this about the NHL: They re-seed for every round of the playoffs. Therefore, if you are the best team in your conference, you are totally rewarded because you will always play the lowest remaining seed.

The Padres are 6-2 baby! Come on, the Dodgers aren't world beaters and the Diamondbacks look bad. I smell a division title. - Roberto
Ahh yes, isn't this the most delightful time of the year, when every team in the majors (Edit: every team except one, sorry Nats fans) envisions making the playoffs. Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but can we just run down the Padres most recent lineup for a minute?

The good folks over at Wiley Books were nice enough to send us a copy of this George Steinbrenner biography. So, amp up your commenting skills, because one of the next four Comment of the Week winners will take it home.
Here's the deal: Like always, the decision for Comment of the Week rests solely in my hands. However, after the next four have been chosen, I will put them all up in one post, and the readers will vote on the best CotW. The winner gets the book. Sound easy enough?
Good luck, and for the record, I still hate the Yankees. |

How much money would you need to get paid to let your son play for Isiah Thomas at Florida International? - Adam, NorCal
Are you kidding me? I would send my son there in a heartbeat. Seeing as that I am an aspiring writer, it would give me perfect access to Isiah. After six months of hanging around because 'I want to make sure it's the right situation for my child' I would come out with one of the best tell-all books ever.

What is more likely to happen: Gary Sheffield hitting home run No. 500 or Gary Sheffield hitting a white woman for not baking him cupcakes? - Kimbo, East Lansing, Mich.
The odds are dead even. Everyone knows that Sheff Daddy loves cake on his birthday, and wants cupcakes after accomplishing his baseball milestones. The problem is, he's no longer a superstar, and doesn't have those groupies hanging around fulfilling his every need. So if and when Sheff does hit No. 500, he will go into a rage when there are no cupcakes waiting for him in the dugout. He will go up to Mike Piazza, ask him where his apron is, and then take a swing. It will be a sad day, but one that will make my words prophetic.

Have you royally screwed anything up on your MLB season preview yet, or are you good? I’d go back and check but that thing is long. - Kevin, Mesa, Ariz.
What, you can’t just gloss over 1,000+ words of goodness to find your answers? OK, I’ll tell you what I’ve learned after a week of baseball:
- I said the Nationals would not lose 100 games this season because of the power packed in the middle of the lineup (Adam Dunn, Ryan Zimmerman and Lastings Milledge). Well, Milledge is batting leadoff, and with that I use the word ‘batting’ loosely. Their pitching is horrendous, the batting isn’t much better and they’re off to an 0-6 start. So, let me rephrase what I meant: The Nationals will not lose 100 games this season, if and only if the schedule is cut down to 110 games. If not, they should break 100 by mid-September.

Kimbo comes up with an unprecedented second straight Comment of the Week. What does he win for doing so? Nothing. However, keep it up Kimbo, because the next four Commenters of the Week will be in the running to win a biography of George Steinbrenner. Details will follow, so check back.
Anyways, on to Kimbo's comment, after he found 'hidden gem' Gary Sheffield in our N.L.-only Fantasy Baseball League:: Jay Bruce - NL MVP. P.S: Gary Sheffield will hit 34 home runs in his only 34 at-bats this season. Or his shoulder will rot off and he will blame it on the "Whities." Likely the latter. |
