It's been well established that you don't watch hockey. Did you tune in for the U.S. soccer game against Brazil? - DJ

Shhh. I'm trying to lay low on the I-hate-hockey business. I do actually enjoy soccer, but I regret to inform you that I did not tune in to watch the match. Call me when the World Cup is on.

With that being said, let me give you some analysis on the sport, although I haven't watched a match in about three years: The United States is not as good as this tournament seemed to suggest.

Golden state of mind

Thoughts on the proposed Amare trade to Golden State? - Ron Zonie

Here was the proposal for those living under a rock: Amare for Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright, Marco Bellinelli and Stephen Curry.

If that was truly the deal, then yes, the Suns would do good by taking it.

Do you like Atlanta’s addition of Jamal Crawford? – Roger S.

Umm, no. How does this phone call go, exactly?

Larry Riley: ‘Hi, this message is for Atlanta general manager Rick Sund. Hi Rick, this is Larry Riley of the Golden State Warriors. I realize you have Joe Johnson at shooting guard already, but how would you like Jamal Crawford to steal his shots and add an egregious contract to your payroll? All I’m asking for is some cap relief in Speedy Claxton and a young player with potential and a rookie contract in Acie Law. Let me know what you think.’

MLB predictions revisited
Written by Bush Rod

At the beginning of the season, I gave my predictions for the upcoming baseball season. Nearly halfway through the year, let's see how I'm doing:

American League
Cy Young
: Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox
What I said then: The talent has always been there, but Beckett always seems to get injured. His ERA last year wasn't great, but he had an insane strikeout-to-walk ratio. With so much depth in the rotation, Beckett will be the star of stars. Predicted stat line: 22-6 with a 3.14 ERA.
Beckett so far: 8-3 with a 3.74 ERA.
Analysis: The flame-throwing right-hander had a shaky start to the season, but has been nails in the past month or so. I like where we're headed with this one. The ERA probably won't get that low, and he will have to really pick it up to win that many games, but Beckett should definitely be in the Cy Young conversation.
If I could do it over: Zack Greinke. He's been insane, but who would have guessed that?

One game the Lions could win

Who would win? The NFL's worst team? Or college football's best team? University of Florida Gators vs. the Detroit Lions? - Michael T.

Hmm, that's tough. Well, I don't think Florida would have beaten Detroit this year. The Gators were a good team, but they weren't a dominant national champion from start to finish. I know the Lions were historically bad, but you need a dominant college team that is deep at all positions. Detroit's defense wouldn't have let Tebow do his antics and I bet the Lions would have pulled it out.

The year I'd love to see is 2004.

NBA mock draft

Who would you take if you were the Suns? - Miekeli

I'll do you one better. I'll give you a mock draft of the lottery. I'll explain who I would take if I were running each team, and what I think will actually happen. Let's do it.

1. Los Angeles Clippers
My take: Ricky Rubio – I love this kid. I know everyone is penciling in Blake Griffin because he is more of a sure thing, but Rubio’s ceiling is so much higher. Griffin was an outstanding rebounder in college and a pretty good scorer. But he’s 6-foot-9. He won’t get nearly the amount of rebounds in the pros, and his offensive game isn’t advanced enough to dominate. He’s a 17-point, nine-rebound guy. That doesn’t wow me at No. 1 overall. Rubio is still young, but has shown flashes of greatness. I’d take him.
What the Clips will do: Griffin. Pansies.

There is a flier at my work advertising a $25 Father's Day giveaway for dads employed at the paper.

It's located on the door of the men's bathroom. Now that is some focused advertising.

What's a Shaq worth

What can the Suns reasonably expect to get for Shaq-Daddy? - Matt, Glendale, Ariz.

Two jump ropes, an empty water bottle and a box of tic-tacs.

Be serious? I am being serious.

OK, well, first of all, that proposed Shaq trade to Cleveland (Shaq for Sasha Pavlovic and the carcass of Ben Wallace) is dreadful. If the Suns give away a third team all-NBA center, Steve Nash will just come out in pregame introductions waving a white flag.

On Bryce Harper
Written by Bush Rod

Bryce Harper must love bus rides.

Word comes today that the high school catcher from Las Vegas, Nevada will get his GED and play baseball next year for the College of Southen Nevada, thus becoming eligible for next June’s major league draft.

He has such prodigious talent that Harper will likely be the No. 1 overall selection.

But what’s the rush, Bryce? (Or, more accurately, the question should be framed to his father, Ron, who is the mastermind of this grand scheme, whether he would admit it or not.)

One year away
Written by Bush Rod

Speaking of LeBron, I’m ecstatic about the Cavs’ postseason. Why? Because, one more year of this, and LeBron is free and clear to bolt to New York, guilt-free.

If the Cavs win the title next season, it would look bad if he left to play in a bigger market, seeing as how he was born and raised in Ohio and is basically the only reason people in that state continue to live (just kidding, Ohioans, I’ve only been to your state once, so I have no room to judge. I’m sure it’s great). If they don’t win it all, he’s free to go.

I can see the interview now:
